DESCRIPTION | The course is a theoretical and practical application of OT intervention techniques in the performance areas of daily life within performance contexts Objectives: The unit aims at enabling the student to attain: - The ability to develop own learning needs, research the required topic and increase own knowledge using self-directed learning - The ability to assess, diagnose problems and intervene in the performance areas of daily life (vocational, avocational, sexuality and mobility) - Knowledge on how to perform a thorough environmental assessment both in the home as well as at a work site - Skills in environmental assessment, adaptation and home visit reporting - Knowledge of design recommendations in relation to disability needs - The development of critical analysis of situations and the ability to make appropriate decisions in the face of diverse options available when adopting a holistic approach to problem-solving - The development of skills in group/individual work, presentations and report writing The student will be able to: - Assess patient needs in the performance of daily life tasks - Analyse the information to develop appropriate treatment intervention programmes to overcome difficulties - Apply knowledge of various OT approaches in the activities of daily living - Demonstrate the ability to teach the use of ADL equipment and techniques professionally and safely with patients and educate family/carers - Carry out on-site assessment of home and work environment and make appropriate recommendations to maximize performance - Adapt activities for the home and work to enable productivity Content: It will include: - Introduction to advanced clinical skills - Work and Productive Activities - Job site analysis and Work Hardening - Transportation and driving evaluation - Leisure activities - Environmental Evaluation, Design and Adaptation - Home Assessment - Sexuality and disability Reading List: - Turner A., Foster M., Johnson S.
