DESCRIPTION | Lecture Series: - Introduction to neurology; - history and examination; - cerebrovascular disease; - tumours of the nervous system; - infections of the nervous system; - epilepsy; - trauma to the nervous system; - neurodegenerative disorders; - demyelinating disorders; - toxic and metabolic neurologic disorders; - neuromuscular disorders; - congenital and developmental neurologic disorders. Study-unit Aims Review of the basic approach taken upon encountering a patient with a neurologic problem, the key elements of the neurologic examination, an overview of common neurologic tests, and a review of common neurologic diseases. Learning Outcomes 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to comprehend common neurologic adult and paediatric diseases by describing signs and symptoms, aetiology, prevalence, treatment and prognostic factors. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to take a history and carry out a basic examination on a patient presenting with a neurologic problem as well as be able to differentiate between the various neurologic conditions.
