DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will provide the opportunity for students to practice a variety of psychosocial skills. Students will be involved in supervised hand-on practice. They will have the opportunity to obtain an occupational profile and an occupational performance level, for given clients, through an assessment. They will also be able to engage clients in activities that include different areas of occupation, that take into consideration the clients' needs, the activity demands, the context and any adaptations necessary. Study-unit Aims: 1. To encourage and train students in carrying out assessments 2. To be able to identify conceptual frameworks for the occupations carried out with the client 3. To encourage students to be able to use clinical reasoning during hands-on sessions 4. To be able to devise activities that match the clients' needs according to their particular occupational profile and level of performance 5. To develop skills in the use of tools and mastery of treatment techniques 6. To assist students in the process of linking theory with practice in the psychosocial field Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Demonstrate a good understanding of assessment methods with different client groups 2. Be proficient in a number of treatment techniques 3. Have an increased confidence with clients during treatment sessions 4. Develop treatment goals and activities that require the clients to produce a degree of mastery in one or more areas of occupation 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Establish activity demands of any particular positive health promoting occupations 2. Communicate effectively with clients and supervisors 3. Conduct activities that involve all areas of occupation 4.
