DESCRIPTION This second-year study unit provides more clinical opportunities for students working with diverse clients in clinical setting. Students expand their clinical practice by also providing domiciliary clinical services. In Clinical Practice 2, students manage patients' treatment plans under supervision within the traditional dental clinic setting and other set-ups including state homes or alternatives.

Study-unit Aims:

The aims of the study-unit are to:

- Help student expand their clinical expertise in managing older adults presenting with diverse barriers to oral and general health;
- Develop students' professionalism while providing realistic dental services for older adults in diverse clinical settings;
- Provide opportunities to integrate evidence-based dentistry in diverse clinical settings.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Interpret patients' data to develop a dental care plan for older adults;
- Provide dental services to patients in diverse clinical settings according to the exigencies of the older adult patient;
- Participate in the management of oral diseases;
- Collaborate with other professionals in providing quality health care to older adults.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Liaise with other healthcare providers to optimize health for the older adult patient;
- Administer comprehensive treatment care according to the patients' needs within the limitations encountered in diverse settings;
- Promote oral health on a one is to one basis when treating patients;
- Use evidence-based knowledge in decision-making.Pre-requisite Qualifications: BSc Dental Hygiene, BChD, MDS
