DESCRIPTION | The European School of Genetic Medicine (ESGM) will be offering its courses using web casting technology, from its main training centre in Bertinoro di Romagna, Italy. The Laboratory of Molecular Genetics, Department of Physiology and Biochemistry, University of Malta and Division of Pathology, Department of Health is an authorised remote training centre (RTC) through its participation in the project entitled "Euro-Mediterranean Cancer Prevention and Genetic Medicine Network" funded through the EUMEDIS project and with partial support of the National Student Travel Foundation, under the direction of Professor Alex Felice. At each RTC, ESGM lectures will be shown and discussion sessions and workshops organised by RTC faculty will follow. Questions will be collected and emailed to ESGM faculty at the main site and answers will be broadcasted live to the remote sites. Students are expected to participate throughout the course. Students are expected to participate throughout the course. Students will submit a critical review on a topic of their choice from among those presented and should include the background to the project discussed, its methodology and results. If possible, students are encouraged to comment on the relevance of the topic to their chosen research project with special regard to applicability of techniques. The report shall be judged by at least two members of the Board of Studies. Marks will be awarded on the clarity and understanding of the work presented. Students should address why experiments were carried out and suggest possible future experimental designs using the relevant results presented. Marks will also be awarded for being concise. Courses that will be selected for this study-unit will have 14 contact hours. Learning Objectives Communications skills are an important part of scientific endeavor. Students will learn how to present their own research results and ideas largely through example (by attending international presentations). Reading List Various Internet Resources are available. |
