TITLE Military Law for Members of the Armed Forces of Malta

DESCRIPTION The study-unit will primarily analyse Maltese military law. It will discuss this subject under nine main headings, these being the constitutional provisions relevant to the Armed Forces, the Malta Armed Forces Act and Subsidiary Legislation made thereunder, criminal offences that are relevant to AFM personnel and the military procedure under the Armed Forces Act. The study-unit will also deal with Police powers exercisable by members of the Armed Forces of Malta, pertinent Administrative Law to AFM personnel, the relevance of National Security Law to the Armed Forces, the law regulating diplomatic privileges and immunities together Law, and Data Protection and Freedom of Information Laws, all in so far as the AFM is concerned.

Study-Unit Aims:

The aim of the study-unit is to present a clear definition and understanding of military law according to the law and the present Law.

Students will be taught to recognise and interpret the aims and ends of the Act and how this intertwines with the daily running of all the Armed Forces of Malta and the practice of military law.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Write a detailed assignment on a certain aspect of the armed forces and military law in Malta.
- Analyse, evaluate, study and interpret the Armed Forces Act.
- Implement and give advice on aspect of military law from a legal perspective.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- write upon
    - Military Law
    - the management of the Armed Forces of Malta
    - the legal parameters and code of conduct applicable to Armed Forces of Malta personnel.
- appraise, evaluate and research in the field of Military Law.
