DESCRIPTION | The study-unit will focus on analysing normative critiques or arguments, evaluating legal and ethical arguments, and undertaking and writing a literature review. In particular this study-unit will focus on identifying and recognising sources which are pertinent to human rights law and provide a methodology on case law analysis and case studies. Study-Unit Aims: The study-unit will undertake a legal analysis of human rights relevant sources and instruct in methods of research required for analysis of human rights issues. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Carry out research and analysis of sources of human rights; - Carry out critical analysis and originality in scholarship; - Critically analyse judgments of the national and regional courts as well as of opinions of international commissions on the interpretation of human rights; - Develop well defined arguments in support or against claims of human rights violations. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Prepare analytical assignments, case studies and dissertation; - Prepare written analysis of case studies and research questions; - Analyse sources and develop own analysis and arguments in relation to various issues of human rights.
