DESCRIPTION This study-unit will provide guidance on how to advocate for human rights. Studies will focus on the work of non-governmental organisations, their work in raising awareness, assisting victims, advocating with public and political stakeholders and in bringing about changes in policy. The study-unit will also focus on preparing legal arguments for and against circumstances indicated in a case study which is to be debated by participants in a simulated moot court.

Study-Unit Aims:

To put into practice the theory learnt in the other study-units by exploring methods of implementation and mediums through which notions and principles of human rights are brought into effect. This study-unit will aim at familiarising students with the role of civil society including non-governmental organisations and companies and analyse the importance of putting into place good policies.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Identify and apply methods of advocacy to human rights issues;
- Design and develop a human rights project.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Draft relative documents needed in developing a human rights project;
- Identify and analyse data and statistics relevant to human rights issues;
- Litigate in favour of or against a claim of violation of human rights in a moot court simulation.
