DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will analyse the different human rights that give rise to strong moral and ethical issues such as the ethical medical legal issues arising in the right to life, end of life, surrogacy, abortion, medically assisted procreation, eugenic practices, conscientious objection, and euthanasia. The study-unit will analyse the foundations of ethics and morality and how these support or otherwise arguments made for different fundamental human rights and freedoms. Study-Unit Aims: To analyse the different aspects of ethics and morality and how these affect claims made under Human Rights, how ethics and morality affect the interpretation and application of human rights. The study-unit will analyse caselaw and how courts have dealt with human rights claims which raise ethical and moral dilemmas. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Analyse the protection of human rights within the realm of ethics and morality; - Identify and deconstruct ethical and moral issues relevant to claims made under human rights law; - Identify and analyse relevant caselaw and consider the principles developed by courts in this field. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Provide a written analysis of the different moral and ethical issues that arise in claims under Human Rights Law and Practice.
