| DESCRIPTION | This is a basic introduction to the principle and practice of epidemiology. It describes a description, sources of information and basic guiding principles. Aims: - To introduce the student to the principles and practice of epidemiology. - To help the student become familiar with epidemiology terms. - To enable the student to appreciate the applications in terms of Research Methods and application to public health practice. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Understand the meaning of epidemiology in theory and practice; - Know the sources of epidemiology data, their advantages and limitations; - Know the uses of epidemiology in applied research and public health decision-making. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Read and understand epidemiology terms in published literature; - Apply critique to published research; - Give due emphasis to epidemiology reports; - Know how to apply appropriate epidemiology methods and skills.
