DESCRIPTION This is the first series of study-units related to the development of research skills. In this unit the students identify a general title for a project on an aspect of practical pharmacy as approved by the Head of Department.

They undertake a literature review and present the idea as a poster and a brief project description. Guidelines on the submission are available on the Department website.

Study-unit Aims:

This study-unit provides students with foundation skills in pharmacy practice research, specifically literature review handling and development of research proposal.

To provide students with the opportunity to:
- Establish a research question
- Develop a literature review
- Compile bibliography
- Prepare a short proposal
- Prepare a research plan (approvals required, consumables)

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- build a bibliography;
- describe different study designs.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- interpret and analyse scientific literature;
- compile literature review
- adopt appropriate referencing techniques;
- generate research hypothesis;
- disseminate pharmacy practice research project description through poster presentation.
