DESCRIPTION Students are assigned for a practical attachment to experience industrial pharmacy skills within a pharmaceutical industry or analytical skills within a practical scenario.

Study-unit Aims:

This study-unit emphasizes the importance of techniques used during field work.

- Provide students with an experiential placement in either industrial pharmacy or pharmaceutical analysis settings.
- Utilize the principles of experiential education and engagement of students in "real-life" activities.
- Describe the importance of workplace skills.
- Instill the importance of competence through lifelong learning habits.
- Provide basic understanding and utility of continuous professional development.
- Provide appropriate leadership skills through example.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Appraise professional functions of the pharmacist within practical scenarios.
- Identify characteristics of pharmacist interventions in practical scenarios.
- Apply principles of pharmaceutical sciences to aspects of formulation and product development, quality assurance, medicines evaluation and laboratory processes.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Interact and communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and administrative staff.
- Demonstrate a developmental level of learning experientially by analyzing experiences, connecting them with theory and constructing a message from them.
- Apply critical thinking skills.
- Develop professional and ethical behavioural skills as applicable to pharmaceutical settings.
- Demonstrate accountability in professional practice.
