DESCRIPTION | This unit will provide students with a detailed knowledge of specific orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions which have an effect on the lower limbs. Objectives: At the end of the module, students will be able to: - Identify and critically discuss the assessment of the many varieties of orthopaedic conditions - Identify and critically discuss care required for patients with different orthopaedic conditions. - Show an understanding of the orthopaedic disorders affecting the foot and their underlying pathophysiology - Show an understanding of the medical/orthopaedic management-investigations and treatment of these conditions - Identify and critically discuss recent research studies in orthopaedics with particular attention given to orthopaedic conditions related to the foot. Content: - Pain in the Heel - Posterior Tuberosity - Calcaneal Bursitis - Plantar heel pain - Disorders of the forefoot - Hallux abductovalgus - Hallux Limitus: hallux Rigidus - Hallux Flexus - Metatarsalgia - March fracture - Digital malfunctions and deformities - Retracted toes - Claw toes - Hammer toe - Mallet toe - Digitus quinti varus - Padding and orthotic technique |
