DESCRIPTION This study-unit will provide an opportunity to re-visit the material previously covered with more application and synthesis. It is also meant to help students to integrate their learning of Psychological concepts and techniques with their practice as Speech and Language Pathologists.

Study Unit Aims:

This study-unit is meant to help students to apply their learning of Psychological concepts and techniques to their practice as Speech and Language Pathologists. It is meant to help the students to prepare themselves to think across areas of Psychology and to give them the confidence that they need to be able to apply these learnings to their future practice.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will:

- Be able to reflect on current topics in psychology, as applied to their chosen profession;
- Be able to appreciate how different branches of psychology contribute to the understanding of different issues in psychology (e.g. stress, mental health and wellbeing);
- Be able to formulate a critical opinion on current issues that is based on current literature on issues in psychology.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Identify ways how they can apply their knowledge of psychology to their work.

Outline:

In the study-unit lecturers from previously read study units related to psychology, namely PSY1313, PSY1615, PSY2405, PSY2408, FSD3003 and COU3203 will discuss the application of knowledge gained from these study units to practice, with specific reference to situations usually faced by Communication Therapists. This will be done through the use of case studies where applicable

Note: Topics from PSY1313, PSY1615, PSY2405, PSY2408, FSD3003, COU3202 and COU3203 will be included in the final assessment of this study-unit.
