DESCRIPTION | This study-unit offers students the opportunity to use a variety of adult psychological tests within different levels of training. Students will be able to administer and score tests both by themselves and under supervision. The sessions will be held partially individually and partially in groups. Tests used are as follows: - The Rorschach Inkblot Test - The Thematic Apperception Test - The Rotter Incomplete Sentence Test - The NEO Personality Inventory – Revised (NEO PI-R) - The Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI - III) - The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory(MMPI-2) Study-unit Aims: The unit intends to provide students with an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the content, administration, scoring and interpretation of a number of adult psychological tests. They will also be able to understand the rationale and relevant techniques for projective testing. Students will also be able to administer and score the tests accurately and to make use of them in appropriate situations and with validity of conclusions. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Decide on which adult psychological tests are appropriate for different purposes; - Describe the rationale for the development and use of projective and other forms of personality assessment; - Critically evaluate the use of projective and self-completion personality tests in supporting clients with different needs; - Critically evaluate the literature on adults psychological assessment. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Administer and score a series of psychological tests for adults at the lowest level; - Evaluate the main features of administration, scoring and interpretation of the more advanced level tests; - Evaluate the impact of their own biases and attitudes on the assessment process; - Implement a non-discriminatory and non-judgmental approach during administration of the tests, as well as an objective clinical stance; - Demonstrate awareness of the limitations and potential damaging misuse of personality testing; - Write accurate and useful reports, using language which does not foster stigma, but one which captures a working formulation of the case at hand, with a specific focus on the individual rather than the diagnostic label or condition.
