DESCRIPTION | This is the second core placement for trainees to develop their practical psychological skills. It consists of a placement equivalent to one and a half days per week throughout the second year. Trainees will develop further their competencies as forensic psychologists by undertaking advanced supervised practice in the diverse relevant psychological work in the area of specialisation. The experience gained during Placement 1 will be consolidated and extended to interventions with offenders. Students will be also be provided with further opportunities to work in other areas, namely the field of addictions and policing pertaining to the role of Forensic Psychologists. This will include working at a more intensive level with selected clients through the provision of therapeutic interventions on an individual and group basis, working at different stages or phases of offenders' sentence, working with other service providers where applicable and contributing to available programmes and exisitng systems such as development of sentence or treatment plans and Care-Plans. Study-unit Aims: The aim of this placement are: 1. to consolidate the experience gained during Placement 1; 2. to develop intervention and management skills; 3. to extend the area to include policing and addiction settings. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Critically evaluate theory and research on specific needs / risk assessment and management procedures and tools; 2. Describe and critically evaluate the nature and role of reporting in forensic psychology; 3. Critically evaluate the various models of interventions used in addressing offending behaviour; 4. Identify and evaluate instances of unprofessional practice; 5. Evaluate the need for organisational and policy development in the field of forensic psychology; 6. Evaluate the role of the psychologist in the criminal justice system. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Demonstrate adequate skills in the practice of carrying out assessments used in forensic settings; 2. Demonstrate adequate skills related to reporting and presenting findings related to assessment and management procedures in forensic settings; 3. Demonstrate competence in interventions related to addressing offending behaviour; 4. Demonstrate adequate professional skills in interdisciplinary working, inter and intra-agency cooperation and sharing of information; 5. Contribute to the various initiatives provided by forensic psychologists within the specific organisation in which one is placed; 6.
