DESCRIPTION | This study-unit encourages students to understand and reflect upon the clinical importance of Quality Assurance in a Medical Imaging and/or Radiotherapy Department. Students will be encouraged to familiarise themselves, reflect upon and discuss the various QA procedures that are performed in the different specialities within a Medical Imaging and/or Radiotherapy Department. Study-unit Aims: The aim of the study-unit is to facilitate students' understanding of the principles of Quality Assurance and its importance and application in the clinical medical imaging and/or Radiotherapy setting. Students will be encouraged to use their clinical placement effectively to familiarise themselves with the various QA procedures and Quality Control tests performed in the different specialities within the Medical Imaging and/or Radiotherapy Department. The students will be encouraged to discuss the different QA procedures and QC tests performed in the different medical imaging specialities, both locally and in different countries. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Explain the principles of Quality Assurance (QA); - Discuss the importance of QA in clinical radiography practice; - Identify which Quality Control (QC) tests are performed; - Explain how these QC tests are performed; - Discuss the importance of particular QC tests in radiography. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Compare the different QC tests performed in the different branches of radiography; - Compare the different QA & QC procedures followed in host and home institutions.
