DESCRIPTION | This study-unit is focused on radiographer roles in education and research. Half of the content pertaining to this study-unit will focus on the important role radiographers have in educating patients, the general public, as well as health professionals and students. During the study-unit, students will be guided, and supported in creating, designing and delivering a teaching session and/or educational resource about a radiography-related subject area. The remaining content will explore the role radiographers have in conducting research and disseminating research findings to a wider audience. Specifically, this study-unit will include the following series of lectures: - The role of the radiographer as an educator; - Teaching and Learning in Higher Education; - Teaching and learning for employability; - Models and methods for Teaching and Learning; - Devising a teaching plan, drawing up and preparing a teaching session; - Supporting and assessing student learning; - The role of the radiographer as a researcher; - Reasons to publish radiography research; - Different methods of disseminating research results; - Tips for oral and poster presentations; - Writing a research abstract and a research article; - Abiding to publisher, journal or conference guidelines; - The reviewer's perspective and tips for publishing success. Study-Unit Aims: The aim of this study-unit is to widen students' perspective about the important roles radiographers have in educating others as well as in conducting research and disseminating research findings. The learning outcomes arising from this study-unit encourage students to develop the knowledge, skills and competences required to effectively fulfill these important roles roles. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Discuss and evaluate the role radiographers' have in educating others; - Evaluate and discuss the effectiveness of different methods of teaching and learning in relation to different target audiences; - Explain how to plan, devise and deliver a teaching session to others; - Identify and describe different methods to disseminate research findings, such as: oral presentations, poster presentations and article publications; - Summarise important considerations when preparing a research manuscript for publication. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Create, design and deliver a teaching session and/or resource about a radiography-related subject area so as to educate others (eg. patient's, general public, health care workers and/or fellow students) about a radiography-related topic; - Apply publisher, journal and/or conference guidelines to disseminate results; - Write an abstract and cover letter; - Write a research paper for publication.
