DESCRIPTION | The study-unit details the theoretical principles and perspectives underpinning the professional responsibility to undertake CPD. Furthermore apart from providing a practical framework to manage and organise CPD in line with legal and professional requirements, the study-unit encourages radiographers to identify sources and opportunities for work-based that will further develop their knowledge and professional expertise through reflective and evidencebased radiography practice. During the course of study, radiographers are expected to develop and pursue a personal development plan that explores different approaches to work-based learning, while building up a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates the development of skills related to evaluating and reflecting in and on radiography practice. Study-unit Aims: The aims of this study-unit are to: - Develop an understanding of the concept of continuing professional development and reflective practice as a means to develop self and improve standards of practice; and - Enhance the capacity to undertake and record CPD activities in line with professional requirements. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Discuss the theoretical principles, concepts and models of CPD and lifelong learning; - Discuss the theoretical principles, concepts of reflective and evidence-based radiography practice; - Describe the different strategies related to personal development planning; - Identify and evaluate sources and opportunities for work-based learning to further develop radiographers' knowledge and professional expertise; and - Evaluate legislation frameworks, policies and practices relating personal and professional responsibilities for undertaking CPD. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Demonstrate the development of skills pertaining to different approaches of collecting, recording, and organising evidence as part of CPD; - Formulate a personal development plan and demonstrate the development of skills pertaining to reflective practice, self assessment and self awareness; and - Critically appraise different aspects of current radiography practice, so as to evaluate and determine the evidence-base underpinnings of such practices. Main Text/s and any supplementary readings: Various research articles, text books and other articles related to lifelong learning, continuing professional development, reflective and evidence based practice. |
