CODE SHG3200

TITLE Sacred Scripture Seminar

UM LEVEL 03 - Years 2, 3, 4 in Modular Undergraduate Course

MQF LEVEL 6

ECTS CREDITS 4

DEPARTMENT Sacred Scripture, Hebrew and Greek

DESCRIPTION With particular focus on Christ’s resurrection event, the seminar explores how the Christian faith in the resurrection of Jesus Christ was handed on to the believing communities. The Gospel Resurrection Narratives will be analyzed, together with various ways of expressing the resurrection in kerygmatic nuclei, creeds, hymns, narratives in the Acts of the Apostles and the Pauline Letters.

The seminar will have three parts:
1) the disciples proclaim their faith;
2) the disciples celebrate their faith;
3) the disciples narrate their faith.

Study-unit Aims:

This study-unit will give the opportunity to students to assess and analyze the different ways in which the foundational event of the resurrection of Jesus is expressed in New Testament writings. Furthermore, students will be able to understand how the different literary forms in which the resurrection event is transmitted in New Testament portray the different proclamatory, liturgical and narrative contexts in which they were used.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- identify the different literary forms in which Jesus' resurrection was narrated in different New Testament writings;
- classify the different literary forms in which the resurrection pericopes into narrative, liturgical and kerygmatic categories;
- discuss the specific narrative, kerygmatic and liturgical background of each resurrection pericope.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- distinguish between different types of literary forms with same or similar contents in New Testament texts;
- recognize the background that has given rise to each New Testament text with same content of Jesus' resurrection;
- propose new situations for which the resurrection narratives would be appropriated.
