DESCRIPTION | This practical study-unit will be offered alongside the taught study units of the Master Of Arts in Management of Social Care Services. Through this study-unit students will be given the opportunity to apply knowledge gained through the taught study units to the field. A mentor will be appointed within the host agencies (as far as is possible) to aid the student in the allocation of specific tasks to specific cases, and to act as a reference point for the student within the agency. A University based tutor will also be appointed and will meet with the student at regular intervals to agree tasks and to evaluate progress thereon. The students will be expected to critically reflect on their practice during the placement. Study-Unit Aims: - To provide students with opportunities to apply specific knowledge gained through the taught study units to the field; - To help students to develop confidence in their ability to perform tasks related to the management of social care service; - To help students adopt a critical stance in their analysis of the tasks undertaken; - To increase student's reflectiveness in relation to practice Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - demonstrate their ability to apply knowledge gained through the taught study-units in the context where they are carrying out their placement; - relate theoretical underpinnings to the grounded realities of management practices; - develop a critical degree of reflection on how to understand, interpret and act on grounded realities on the workplace. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - perform specific tasks that relate to the management of social care services; - engage in networking comprising the professional and managerial arena; - improve their intrapersonal and interpersonal skills portfolio.
