DESCRIPTION This introductory study-unit equips student teachers to creatively teach areas in business education, in particular those that are common in business studies, economics and/or accounting. A stimulating and collaborative teaching approach towards the teaching of these common areas is discussed, highlighting the differences and commonalities in the content and pedagogy applied to the three subjects.

Study-Unit Aims:

This unit aims to:
- introduce and immerse student-teachers into a creative and stimulating approach towards the preparation and teaching of aspect of business education, including the use of collaborative learning techniques,
- propose and generate ideas how to teach topics that are common in business studies, economics and/or accounting through interaction and discussion,
- highlight the differences and commonalities between these topics,
- sensitize student teachers to prepare differentiated lessons, and
- help them to reflect on the criteria that determine the success of lessons in business education.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- describe the content of the areas which are common in business studies, economics and/or accounting, outlining the similarities and differences in the pedagogical approach,
- demonstrate knowledge of collaborative learning theory and how this can be applied to the business education topics under consideration,
- with the help of examples, discuss strategies for differentiated learning, and
- understand how organisations can bring in value-added to learning experiences.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- plan stimulating learning scenarios to cover cross-curricular areas in business education which take into consideration the diverse needs of learners in a co-educational and mixed-ability setting,
- come up with and design a variety of resources to make lessons stimulating,
- critically appraise the content of business education.
