DESCRIPTION | This study-unit equips student teachers with the necessary skills to design course content, lessons and resources required to teach accounting. It exposes students to a wide range of skills to teach the financial statements of different business organisations and not-for-profit organisations. Study-Unit Aims: This unit aims to: - raise an awareness of curriculum design and educational objectives underlying the teaching of accounting at secondary level; - equip student teachers with the necessary skills enabling planning, support and assessment of learners; - develop the necessary skills to design lessons and resources required to teach accounting; - cultivate the needed skills to design questions; - foster a wide range of skills to teach financial statements of different business organisations. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - discuss the sequence by which further accounting topics are best dealt with; - recognise the importance of constructing appropriate assessment tools; - develop diverse pedagogical approaches towards the subject. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - plan meaningful learning events for teaching accounting in mixed-ability settings; - design assessment tools and provide appropriate feedback to learners; - construct good quality educational resources; and - make use of community events/resources for educational purposes.
