DESCRIPTION This unit gives the learner the opportunity to observe real-life technology within the graphics industries. The knowledge in this unit makes the learner aware of what national industries do and how they operate apart from giving the opportunity to observe processes and machines in action. The learner will learn how to co-ordinate educational industrial visits for a variety of audiences e.g. children, adults from the general public, expert or research groups, international students, an audit group etc.

Study-Unit Aims:

1. To familiarize the learner with the breadth of field of local graphic industries;
2. To provide opportunity for networking with graphic industries for educational goals;
3. To provide opportunity to observe at first-hand industrial processes in operation.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
1. Identify national industries relevant to the graphics domain of knowledge;
2. Be familiar with and identify the features of particular industries in terms of what technological processes may be observed or the learning outcomes required of the visit.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
1. Network with necessary personnel to organize an educational industrial visit;
2. Co-ordinate an educational industrial visit for a specific audience;
3. Observe and promote multidisciplinary approaches when tackling design jobs;
4. Use entrepreneurship skills when tackling design jobs;
5. Develop a vision for own design ideas.
