DESCRIPTION | This study-unit explores the meanings and the typologies associated with tourism and cultural heritage as defined by UNESCO and other leading organizations (e.g. ICOM, ICOMOS, etc.). The study-unit will focus on the approaches recently proposed on a European and international level ( European Cultural Heritage Strategy for the 21th Century, the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, and Culture 2030 Indicators, recommendations from the European Year of Cultural Heritage, etc) to further explore the relationship between cultural heritage and tourist experience. Beyond the specific conservation and safeguarding of monuments, the themes covered would explore those core aspects of cultural heritage that bring together sites, tourists and stakeholders when adopting sustainable practices intended to generate positive opportunities for non-formal and informal experiential learning. Study-Unit Aims: This study-unit aims to allow students to delve further into the contemporary debates about the confluence of cultural heritage, digital and experience tourism. Students will be introduced to the processes leading to the understanding, identification and application of effective startegies to generate positive visitor experiences. The study unit also aims to raise awareness about the various aspects that dominate such projects, including the role of the host community and the influence this generates on the Considering the complexity of the processes of creation, development and promotion of the experience. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Analyse different approaches proposed by official international institutional bodies (UNESCO, ICOM, UNWTO, ETC, ...) - Describe the main themes that govern the main relationships between cultural heritage, digital and tourist experience. - Identify those processes required to create links and relations between the site, the available resources, and all the stakeholders. - Explain current trends and debates surrounding main themes dominating cultural heritage management and tourist experience. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Collect and describe cultural phenomena dealing with cultural heritage, digital and tourist experience. - Examine main trends through the collection and elaboration of primary data and secoundary sources. - Recognize case studies adequate to set best practices. - Compare different approaches that analyse cultural heritage values and tourist experience.
