DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will enable students to develop the necessary skills to be able to plan and design a touristic cultural product or project with the defined objective of sustainability and social impact. The study-unit will explore the concepts and principles for transmitting the importance for and of culture, identify the barriers to achieving the set targets within international frameworks and the specific characteristics of the tourism sector. Students will be introduced to basic tools and an understanding of the processes and methodologies by which they can be guided to apply them to a pilot model or real case study. Study-Unit Aims: The overall aim of this study-unit is to develop within and among the cultural heritage professionals the practice of evidence management and the sharing of this knowledge. It will do so by mapping out the methodology by which to measure the contribution and impact of culture in the tourism sector. It aims to facilitate the students ability to source the research necessary to identify trends and strategies emplyed by professionals involved in evaluating cultural projects. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - To apply the culture of measurement and analyse evidence provided by cultural heritage professionals (commitment toward sustainability and social impact in this sector) (Cognitive and application of knowledge) - To develop capabilities to re-think cultural heritage and cultural tourist activities from the social impacts' perspective, including visitors and communities (Affective) - To design methodologies, tools and references that could be useful to design and evaluate local, regional and national initiatives in cultural heritage. (Psychomotor and Cognitive) - To develop “innovative practices”, in an experimental phase, through real local case-studies in EU countries,(Psychomotor and Cognitive) 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Define sustainable development - Understand the role that culture plays in sustainable development - Apply the SDGs to community and national development through appropriate frameworks - Apply strategic and decision-making frameworks to real-life case studies and scenarios |
