DESCRIPTION | This unit offers practical training in Audiovisual Translation (AVT), specifically focusing on revoicing modes, such as dubbing and voice-over. These modes facilitate linguistic and cultural access to audiovisual content by recording voice tracks in a newly translated target language, replacing, or overlaying the original track. Students gain expertise in translating and adapting media content for revoicing purposes. They learn how to apply global standards and conventions, experiment with different script layouts, formats, and specifications, and familiarise themselves with client norm expectations, professional workflows and deliverables. The training covers two approaches: the traditional adaptation method without software tools and the cloud-based method, utilising tools integrated into a localisation management platform. Students will have access to the ZOOdubs professional cloud-based platform. The general training approach is globally oriented and non-language-specific, while practice tasks are tailored to various language combinations, including the possibility of English as a target language. Students also practise using pivot translation workflows. Study-unit Aims: - To teach the students how to translate and adapt audiovisual content for dubbing and voice-over purposes; - To teach students how to prepare dubbing and voice over scripts; - To teach the students adaptation strategies for lip-synch dubbing; - To teach the students how to use dubbing cloud-based tools; - To teach students how to use a quality assessment checklist; - To teach students self-assessment methods. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Reproduce professional practice workflows; - Identify standard norms and conventions, such as the use of notations; - Identify quality standards; - Identify the technical and linguistic constraints in audiovisual content; - Select adaptation strategies; - Identify and label errors; - Distinguish between traditional and cloud-based workflows; - Compare direct and indirect translation workflows. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Translate and adapt audiovisual content for dubbing and voice-over purposes; - Comply with standard norms and conventions; - Adopt standard script formats and layouts; - Apply translation strategies; - Adopt pivot translation workflows; - Apply lip-synch adaptation strategies; - Use dubbing technologies; - Apply a quality assessment checklist; - Apply quality control processes; - Apply a quality assessment model to their work; - Self- evaluate their adaptation.
