DESCRIPTION | This study-unit builds upon traditional two-dimensional artistic practices to create composite interpretations of space. Mixed media practices will allow for versatile approaches to colour, texture, form and space. Composition and art and design principles are core elements of this study-unit. Study-Unit Aims: - Encourage experimentation with a variety of artistic practices, media and techniques. - Revisit traditional artistic practices as combined tools to create illusions of depth and space. - Assist students with understanding space in terms of overlapping layers that altogether form a whole. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Identify and relate to collage/mixed media artworks by 20th century artists. - Identify a variety of media and techniques pertinent to two-dimensional image making; - Reinforce notions of pictorial space. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Create composite images through a combination of self-made and found imagery; - Develop effective mixed media methods and techniques to capture three-dimensional space on a two-dimensional surface.
