DESCRIPTION | The study-unit looks at various techniques and media used in wood and stone sculpture, and casting in concrete, or plaster, and modelling in clay, as an introduction to the plastic arts, which students are encouraged to explore as new ways of communicating concepts. Study-Unit Aims: - Expose the Students to different sculpting, casting and moulding media; - Give students the required introductory skills to handle basic plastic arts application, in a studio/workshop environment; - Encourage experimentation in visual presentation of concepts. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Identify the different media and techniques used in sculpture; - characterize the solid objects that can be created by different techniques; - understand the technology behind the preparation of different sculpting media, and their handling. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Prepare simple sculpted objects using wood or stone; - Prepare forms for experimental casts of concrete or plaster; - Use plastic modelling as a basic visual communication or presentation technique. |
