DESCRIPTION | Students will become familiar with the processes and techniques used in experimental multi-colour printmaking and will be encouraged to explore ways of communicating visually through printing, whilst embracing a heuristic mode of learning. Study-Unit Aims: Printmaking positions itself a valuable tool to further develop creative and visual skills , vis-a-vis design, architectural and fine art practice; This study-unit aims to provide a practical experience in the traditional technique of Relief printmaking, and an overview of Block, Etching, Lithography and Silkscreen printing processes. It will also provide contextual and historical information about these printing methods and their relationship to printmaking in the digital era, with a special focus on colour printing. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Recognise and identify traditional colour printmaking methods and processes, whilst applying them to own practice; - Describe the history of multi-colour fine art prints; - Produce a thematic portfolio of prints that signifies both experimentation and competency in colour fine art printmaking. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Conceive and execute a print from an initial drawing to a multi colour print; - Practice different methods of colour printing; - Experience colour theory through practical experiments using special coloured printing ink and matrices; - Constantly re-evaluate own work, identify and try out various solutions to a problem.
