DESCRIPTION | The study-unit will include an introduction to vector 2D drawing, using Cartesian Space and will lay the foundations for the proper presentation, techniques and skills required to prepare accurate 2D representations with computer aided design (CAD). The course will also offer a brief introduction to 3D representation (construction of 3D surfaces, meshes, textures and rendering). Study-Unit Aims: The objectives of this study-unit are to: - Introduce the students to the digital tools available and the main concepts that lie behind; - Introduce and apply a variety of art and design software packages; - Familiarise students with both 2D and 3D software packages; - Introduce the necessary skills and processes required to present 2D and 3D images; - Practice and learn how to break down a 3D object into 2D views. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Prepare and accumulate a substantial portfolio of work, in both traditional and digital media. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Make use of 2D and 3D software packages; - Create 2D drawings to represent simple 3D objects; - Present neat and organised 2D drawings to presentable standards; - Create a simple 3D model out of 2D drawings; - Create a rendered 3D image of the 3D model. |
