Don’t fight the urge: Become a Conflict Resolution practitioner

The spread and escalation of conflict in our times is undoubtedly one of the biggest challenges facing our societies. We see conflict everywhere around us, from our families, our workplaces, our communities, and internationally.

Malta’s rich history as an island in the middle of the Mediterranean sea provides a unique vantage point when it comes to understanding, analysing and resolving conflict. The responsibility to manage and resolve conflicts through mediation, negotiation and peace-building is shared across society, but contributing to the development of scholarship and practice on this issue to ultimately address the root-causes of conflict is a calling for the select few.

Welcome to the University of Malta (UM).

Our Centre for the Study & Practice of Conflict Resolution in collaboration with George Mason University's Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution offers a dual Master's degree in Conflict Resolution and Mediterranean Security, which provides a great opportunity for students to expand their knowledge and develop skills in this field.

Here are 5 reasons why you should sign up for this unique course:

  1. This teaching programme will equip you with skills you can effectively use in diverse sectors such as international organisations, government, business, and non-profit settings.
  2. It will effectively prepare you for research and intervention to manage, mitigate, resolve and potentially prevent conflicts of all kinds.
  3. If you successfully complete this course, you will earn not one but two Masters’ Degrees: an MSc Conflict Analysis and Resolution from the US-based George Mason University (GMU) and an MA Conflict Resolution and Mediterranean Security from the University of Malta.
  4. As a student, you will get the chance to study in Valletta, the city at the heart of the Mediterranean
  5. You will have the opportunity to engage with an international team of experts in conflict resolution, diplomacy, negotiation, security, psychology, human rights, international relations and other fields.

Lectures will be held at the University of Malta’s historic Valletta campus, a building dating back to the 16th century.
