Lesson Study for VET (LS4VET) Project

The “Teacher Collaboration through Lesson Study for Improving the Quality of Vocational Education and Training” (LS4VET) is a 3-year Erasmus+ KA2 project that the Faculty of Education has embarked upon together with partners from Hungary, Austria and the Netherlands. The Faculty of Education team, led by Dr James Calleja, include Dr Michael Buhagiar, Dr Michelle Attard Tonna and Ms Therese Camilleri. The Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) is the local partner school in this project.

Essentially, lesson study is a continuing professional development model supporting close collaboration between teachers and more knowledgeable others to improve teachers’ instructional knowledge and classroom practices. The LS4VET project thus aims to design and deliver an innovative methodology for VET teachers’ and trainers’ development by adapting the Japanese model of lesson study as a participatory action research generated by groups of teachers in VET schools.
