GeMANE 6 Workshop 2024

About

About

Welcome to the official website of Sixth Gender, Methodology and the Ancient Near East (GeMANE 6) workshop.

It is with great pleasure that we would like to inform our community of scholars that Sixth Workshop on Gender, Methodology and the Ancient Near East (GeMANE 6) will take place as a hybrid event on the 8–11 April, 2024, hosted by University of Malta’s Department of Middle Eastern and Asian Languages and Cultures  and the International School for Foundation Studies.

Previous GeMANE workshops were held in Helsinki (2014), Barcelona (2017), Ghent (2019), online (2021) and Helsinki again (2022). The workshop will take place at the University of Malta, Valletta campus

As before, the aim of the workshops is to explore different methodological and theoretical approaches to the study of gender within the framework of ancient Near Eastern studies. The scope of the workshop includes textual, art historical and archaeological approaches, (including neighbouring disciplines) as long as the work contributes new insights into the study of gender in the ancient Near East in the broadest and most inclusive way possible.

The scientific committee of GeMANE 6 will send out a proper call for papers at the end of August with a deadline for abstracts set for October 15, 2023. We aim to communicate our decisions by the first week of November 2023. The call for papers will be distributed via the Agade e-mailing list and of course also posted on this website.

We thank you for your continued interest in and support of GeMANE and look forward to hearing from you and to seeing you in Malta in 2024.

With sincere good wishes,

The GeMANE 6 Scientific Committee (in alphabetical order: Ellie Bennett, Megan Cifarelli, Agnès Garcia-Ventura, Dennis Mizzi, Omar N’Shea and Saana Svärd)
