Personal and Other Insurance 

Participants are reminded to take out personal insurance for themselves and accompanying persons, including insurance of personal effects.


Airport Transfers 

There is a Taxi Stand at the airport. Taxi service from the Airport is available 24 hours a day to any destination in Malta, including Valletta. Fixed rates are applicable and pre-paid tickets can be purchased from the ticket booth at Arrivals. For rates and more details click here.

The weather in Malta will be hot at this time of year.

Currency 

The unit of currency in Malta is the Euro.

There are Banks / ATMs in all towns and villages with additional "Bureaux de Change" in Sliema, St Julians and Valletta.

Electricity supply is 220/240 volts, single phase, 50 cycle.  The square fitting standard three-pin plugs and sockets are used.

Please specify on the registration form if you have any special access or dietary requirements.

Restaurants in Malta offer a wide choice of cuisine ranging from the local to Continental, Indian, Mexican, Chinese.  Maltese food is heavily influenced by the Italian and Italian restaurants abound on the islands.

Dinner can cost from EUR 20 to EUR 45 per head depending on the category of restaurant. Snack bars and cafes are cheaper.  One can find a variety of restaurants according to his/her own budget.

Cinema 

Adult cinema tickets cost EUR 9.00.

Sport 

Malta offers facilities for practically all kinds of sports. Many of the leading hotels in Malta have modern health and fitness facilities.


Health 

Delegates should ensure that they are covered by adequate Medical Insurance.  Healthcare in Malta is of a high level conforming to European standards.  Mater Dei Hospital is the state hospital.  There are also private hospitals.


Language 

Malta has two Official Languages: Maltese and English. English is widely spoken in Malta and will be the language of the Conference.

Stamps may be bought from most Newsagents/Stationers.

Shopping 

Shops are usually open from 0900hrs to 1300hrs and 1600hrs to 1900hrs.  However, many are closed on Saturday afternoon whilst one can shop in the Shopping Malls all day and on Sundays.

Malta is renowned for its Lace, Mdina Glass and reasonably priced gold and silver items.  Local honey and wine have been famous since antiquity.
