About
The 7th edition of IEEE Workshop on Electrical Machine Design, Control and Diagnostics – WEMDCD – will be held at Valletta, Malta, between 9-10 April 2025, and organized in collaboration between the Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of Malta and the Department of Engineering “Enzo Ferrari” (DIEF) of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
WEMDCD is an international event sponsored by IEEE-IES Industrial Electronics Society and co-sponsored by IEEE-IAS Industry Applications Society. WEMDCD is today an internationally recognised workshop in the field of electrical machines design, control and diagnosis, where novel research activities and up-to-date industrial applications are presented. Considering the electrical revolution which is currently on-going in transportation, the 2025 WEMDCD 7th edition will bring cutting edge technologies into the world of automotive, aviation and naval industries, allowing for enhanced exchanges between academia and industrial partners.
The Maltese Islands are located in the centre of the Mediterranean. A tourist hot-spot since the late 1970s, Malta is today one of the best-known worldwide locations for summer-related holidays. Its location in the centre of the Mediterranean has historically given it great strategic importance as a naval base and therefore Malta offers exciting activities for all ranges from history-buffs to art-geeks to culture-enthusiasts etc… Its maritime activities have always kept Malta in-line with technological advancements. However, recent years have seen a huge, concentrated investment in technological development, IT systems and most importantly electrification of transport. These are resulting in high interest in electrification systems such as electrical machines and drives and all the associated technologies. Hosting WEMDCD’2025, thus falls perfectly within this burgeoning activity in the country and of course at the University of Malta. This conference will offer excellent opportunities to meet experts in this research field and making new connections.
