The Bachelor of Commerce is a full-time degree course. During the first year, you will study a variety of modules from introductory micro and macro-economics to psychology, accounting, management, sociology, policy and statistics. Then, in the second and third years, you will be able to choose economics as one of your two major areas. Over these two years, you will be able to look more closely inside the economic toolbox by gaining knowledge of how to use econometrics, what to make of micro and macro-economic theory, and see real-world applications of the subject in applied topics beyond the standard textbook. By the end of your third year, you can pursue one of the Department’s two Master’s degrees.
The Master of Science in Economics is a full-time programme spanning three semesters. The MSc prepares you to face the challenges of the world by equipping you with an advanced economic toolset. Over the first semester, you will dive deep into microeconomic and macroeconomic theory, applied mathematics for economics and rigorous research methods including advanced econometrics. During the second semester, you will have the opportunity to follow fields of economics including economics of ageing populations, environmental, resource, behavioural, labour and global economics. In the summer semester, you will combine the general knowledge of economics that you have accumulated and focus on a chosen area of specialisation in your dissertation.
The Master of Arts in Economics is a part-time programme spanning five semesters. In the MA you will learn about research methodology and produce a research dissertation which will be supervised one-to-one. This programme will give you the opportunity to dedicate the time you need to answer a research question which can advance you towards an academic career (make sure you reach out to us before you apply).
