The Asset Management Unit within the Procurement Directorate had been set with the aim of centralising the management of assets at UM.
Due to the complex nature of such a large institution as the University of Malta, whereby hundreds of different items are bought on a daily basis, it is difficult to devise hard and fast rules in order to determine what constitutes a fixed asset. Generally speaking, fixed assets are those items which are not consumed and are expected to last for more than a year.
However, due to the vast range of items which are bought we understand that one may be unsure whether specific items require a fixed asset code. In such situations we suggest you contact us in order to discuss the matter in detail.
