Building a Sustainable University

Building a Sustainable University: Empowering UM Staff for Change

Facilitators: Dr Vincent Caruana and Professor Mark Mifsud
Target audience: All members of staff
Workshop duration: 3 hours

Workshop Overview

The workshop is a participatory 3-hour session designed to introduce all staff employed by UM to the principles of sustainability and empower them to take meaningful action within their respective roles at the university.

The workshop begins with an exploration of the concept of sustainability, highlighting its ever-growing importance in the context of higher education institutions and its relevance to staff responsibilities.

Following this introduction, the participants will engage in a sustainability self-audit exercise, designed to assess their current practices and behaviours concerning sustainability. This self-reflection will help participants identify areas where they can improve and prioritise action points for implementation.

The workshop will end with an activity whereby the participants will explore and share ideas, practical strategies and best practices for integrating sustainability into their daily work routines and professional responsibilities. By the end of the session, participants will have a better understanding of sustainability principles and will have identified action points they can work on individually and collectively in their roles and responsibilities.

This introductory workshop forms part of a series of follow-up workshops intended to provide staff with support and guidance in implementing sustainability initiatives within the university community.
