STREETS

STREETS

The STREETS project aimed to contribute to improvements in the transport chain and the strengthening and integration of multi-modal transport system in Sicily and Malta.

In doing so, STREETS aimed to support Corridor 5 of the European Ten-T.  The project helped to improve the knowledge about the transport system between and within the two islands through a transport network mapping exercise, an integrated survey of supply and demand and an appropriate strategy for the promotion of an integrated and sustainable transport system.  The entire project was supported by the development of a Web-GIS platform to harmonize political and administrative frameworks between the two islands.  The platform collected geo-referenced data about the transport system to simplify the dialogue between the public administrations of the two islands and facilitate the planning, design implementation or joint monitoring of the movements within and between islands.  This was done to improve the standards of safety, quality and dialogue with citizens and stakeholders.

As part of the STREETS Project, the  ICCSD organised an Info-Day entitled Integrated Transport Malta-Sicily on the 24th October at the Grand Hotel Excelsior in Valletta. The University of Malta was represented by Prof. Maria Attard (project coordinator), Ing. Luana Chetcuti Zammit, Ms Nicolette Formosa and Ms Deborah Mifsud (project research officers) and Ms Boglarka Toth (project administrator).
