The Faculty of ICT launches a revamped B.Sc. IT (Hons) (Software
Development) degree programme.
The Faculty of ICT at the University of Malta has updated and enhanced the
programme of studies for its very popular B.Sc. IT (Hons) (Software Development)
degree programme. The programme of studies for the first year now includes new
study-units in Python, Computer Platforms, Object Oriented Programming, Principles
and Paradigms of Programming Languages, and a new Mathematics for Computing
study-unit. The second year has also been updated with changes and additions to
the programme of studies. The second year has also been updated with changes

aspects related to compiling techniques, mobile development, as well as the
application of AI techniques to business and commercial processes. The changes
are designed to strengthen the popular degree programme and to make it more
relevant to modern software development technologies, techniques, and practices.
The new programme is meant to help students attain their professional goals and to
help them develop generic skills that have a life-long impact such as problem
solving, critical and abstract thinking and modelling, time and resource management,
flexibility, communication, and the effective application of technology. There is
currently a huge shortage (over 2 million) of properly trained and qualified software
developers in the US and Europe and this shortage keeps growing year by year.
This has hindered business development and digital transformation in the major
economies. There has never been a better time to study software development.
