The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Sport and Physical Activity provides students with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the key elements of sport, exercise and physical activity from different perspectives. It is targeted at anyone aiming to pursue a career in the sports sector.
This course combines a theoretical analysis of sport with the more practical study of different sport and physical activity related areas. During placements, students will get valuable experience in a variety of sport and physical activity settings and will have the opportunity to apply their learning in real-life situations, thus enhancing their career opportunities.

Maturity clause applicants
Candidates who apply under the maturity clause are to pass the English Proficiency test, provided that applicants in possession of a Secondary Education Certificate pass at Grade 3 or higher in English or a pass at the same standard in a comparable qualification, shall be exempted from sitting for the proficiency test (as per Bye-Laws of 2019 in terms of the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2004, for the Degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Sport and Physical Activity).
The English Proficiency Test will be held on Friday, 6th September 2024.
Candidates who apply under the maturity clause will additionally attend an interview on Friday, 20th September 2024.

This programme of study provides students with the opportunity to examine, critically analyse, and evaluate the role of physical education and sport in contemporary society. Students are to gain theoretical and practical knowledge and understanding of Research Methods specific to the areas of Physical Education and Sport. The dissertation component will provide opportunities for students to apply theoretical knowledge of conducting research into practice. Students will understand and be able to apply practitioner research. Aspects such as leadership in the area of sport and physical education will be delved into and analysed. Continuous engagement in various professional development opportunities, coupled with ongoing reflection and analysis of professional practice and relevant scientific literature will aid develop students' understanding of aspects directly related to the fields of Physical Education and Sport.
