Abstract: | The earliest Neolithic Culture so far known in Sicily is that of Stentinello, so called after the village of that name near Syracuse where it was first recognized. The arrival of the Stentinello culture seems to have been a novel event which suddenly interrupted the slow evolution of the palaeolithic and mesolithic which had lasted for thousands of years, and brought them to an abrupt end. Signs of Stentinello culture have also been found in Malta in the form of pottery at Ghar Dalam. |
