Abstract: | This article deals with the situation, concerns and issues related to modern language teaching and learning at primary school in three Mediterranean countries (Greece, Italy and Spain) and England. It is the initial part of the work carried out in the course of a European Cooperation Project, Oxymoron (LINGUA Programme). Attention is given to the question of the optimal age for learning and acquiring languages, and to the education reforms which have been undertaken in each of those Mediterranean countries in relation to early modem language teaching and learning (EMLTL) and interculturality. Some conclusions and recommendations are drawn from this comparative study. |
