Abstract: This study explores the recipes Home Economics teachers suggest to their Form 4 students for practical sessions, since the national Home Economics syllabus does not identify specific recipes that students need to follow for their practical sessions. Due to this fact, before a practical session, the students either prepare the recipes their teacher suggests or they have to find recipes and modify them according to the assignment set. The study also investigates what recipes Form 4 Home Economics students are preparing during practical sessions. Throughout this research study, data was gathered from different research methodologies, including semi-structured and structured interviews as well as questionnaires in a form of a checklist. After having established the present situation about the recipes being given to students, a needs assessment was conducted to identify whether there is a need of a recipe book to assist Form 4 Home Economics students in their practical sessions. During the data collection exercise, all respondents participating in the study had the opportunity to identify the structure/ layout of the recipe book they prefer. The recipe book developed, focuses mainly on the food commodities that are stated in the national Form 4 Home Economics syllabus, mainly: Meat and meat products; Fish; Fruits and Vegetables. This recipe book was trialed and the findings indicate that the resource developed is effective and useful in guiding Home Economics students when choosing recipes for their practical sessions.
