Abstract: | The National Diabetes Data Group makes the case for universal screening of the obstetrical population. The American College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ACOG), falls short of recommending universal screening, and suggests instead that screening should be reserved for pregnant women 30 years or older unless they have risk factors. In this article the author states that the practising obstetrician faces a dilemma when it comes to gestational diabetes mellitus which appears to be impossible to resolve. |
