Abstract: | Agglutination is a linguistic process pertaining to derivational morphology in which complex words are formed by stringing together morphemes without changing them in spelling or phonetics. Ferdinand de Saussure (mentioned several times in the article) was a Swiss linguist and semiotician. His ideas laid a foundation for many significant developments in both linguistics and semiology in the 20th century. In fact, the author mentions his works and ideas a lot in the article. The impact of Saussure’s theory of the linguistic sign has been such that modern linguists and their theories have since been positioned by reference to him: they are known as pre-Saussurean, Saussurean, etc. Saussure's theories are in fact thoroughly explained further in the article. |
