Abstract: I shall attempt to bring out very briefly the salient legal aspects of Communications Media in Malta. In this context, reference is made to five legal sources, namely: The Press Act of 1974; The Wireless Telegraphy Ordinance of 1922; The Constitution of The Republic of Malta; The 1961 Broadcasting Ordinance as well as The Agreement negotiated by the Government on the one hand and the Rediffusion Group of Companies on the other. At this stage a little clarification might be necessary to explain that with the enactment of the Broadcasting Ordinance in 1961, the Malta Broadcasting Authority became a party to this Agreement in lieu of the Government. Further, with the setting up of Telemalta Corporation in 1975 and the subsequent transfer to this Corporation, in that same year of ail that comprise the Rediffusion Group of Companies, Telemalta became a party to this Agreement as the new Broadcasting Contractor.
