Abstract: | The core of the Maltese society is still, indeed and rightly so, the family. However if we have a look at our history we see that, since the earliest ages, we always had a matriarcal society. The father was the breadwinner, the defender of the family. But the mother reigned within the family; and the dearest possessions of the mother were her children. This still holds to the present day. |
