Abstract: The idea for the novel was born during the 1980s, a time of political unrest. However, in the novel there is a deeper, more intimate idea, the idea of woman who realises that she does not want to be a mother. Situations evolve that give her the perfect opportunity to run away from her life and leave her daughter with the father. For Azzopardi, writing a novel is a far greater challenge than writing a short story. She also said that “our country’s history is littered with mysteries to which we have never been offered resolution...Literature offers a fictitious resolution.”
